Joy filled, unobtrusive wedding photos for down to earth couples

Wedding Photography in Melbourne & Victoria

Nothing beats celebrating together with the people you love most.

Weddings are for celebrating, not for endless posing. As a Melbourne wedding photographer, I focus on natural, joyful moments that make the day feel real and full of life, so your photos truly reflect your experience.

With over fourteen years of experience in Melbourne wedding photography, I believe strongly in celebrating marriage and each other. Real moments are far more meaningful than fabricated ones. I’m great at helping people feel comfortable and offer enough guidance to put you at ease without being intrusive. This allows your day to unfold naturally while I document your important moments in a way that’s truthful and beautiful.

“Our wedding photos bring us so much joy! They capture every nuanced glance and handmade detail. They are beyond anything we could have hoped for! We were hesitant to hire a professional wedding photographer as we wanted the day to be as natural as possible. Bec was totally unobtrusive yet beautifully captured every detail in every moment. She enhanced our day! Our photos are one of the most precious things we own. We cannot thank Bec enough!”

    Hey, I’m Bec

With fourteen years of experience, my photography is all about documenting real connection, the kind that unfolds naturally when people feel at ease. I’m a slightly nerdy but personable introvert, and I know how to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera, even if it’s not usually your thing. I keep things clear and simple, with easy communication and a process that won’t add stress to your day. My approach is mostly documentary, with some gentle guidance when it’s needed. I’m also committed to inclusivity and creating a respectful, welcoming space for everyone.

    Frequently Asked Questions

A get to know you call (Usually via Zoom/Google Meet), a client portal with questionnaires in the lead up to your day to ensure all information about your day is very clear and I understand your priorities. Vendor recommendations, timeline help and general wedding planning questions.

Your wedding day coverage as per the package you’ve selected – this includes your photos from the day edited in a combination of black and white and colour. You get ALL (see minium quantities on package info) your high-resolution digital files in a beautiful and easy to navigate online gallery with a slideshow. From here you can share or print through a high quality Australian based lab (if you so choose).

I also include a sneak peek in the first few days after your wedding so you can share your joy and great images right away!

I aim to have all wedding galleries back within 6-8 weeks (Earlier in less busy periods). With an early sneak peek within 48 hours.

Please click here to use the enqiry form through my website. I’ll be in touch to set up a meeting so you can see if I’m a good fit and discover a little more about my process. You can reach out as soon as you have a date locked in (or before if you want to check if I’m availalbe!).

I definitely want a list of your family (or friend) group shots but trust me on the rest of it, my wedding coverage is comprehensive and I have 15 years or experience behind me in understanding what couples want and what needs to be documented on a wedding day. Although I definitely appreciate a heads up on any important but subtle details that I might not otherwise know about.

I’ve photographed a lot of rainy weddings! It’s Melbourne! Usually you can duck in and out from under cover, we can find shelter in some surprising locations or do some moody indoor shots. Rainy days offer great colours and interesting opportunities!

I photograph most of my weddings solo but occasionally logistics or timing will mean that you’ll be better off having an additional photographer. Alternatively you may want a second photographer for that additional perspective or to help cover a larger wedding.

A second photographer can come for all or part of your day. They work alongside me and are always someone I’m confident can deliver great images. Price on Application.

My focus is on your stills – but I work with lots of videographers and can recommend someone wonderful for your day.

I know lots of wonderful vendors and will happily send names your way if you have something you are looking for from Florists to Celebrants.

I photograph all weddings with two cameras, both with dual card slots – when I get home I immediately back up your files and store duplicates in a fire proof safe and I aim to deliver your images quickly so you also have copies.

First enquire to see if I am available for your date by clicking here. Please reach out as early as you can as my weekends book quickly. At the moment I am taking around 10-15 weddings a year this allows me to offer my best to my couples.

Yes! All sessions have access through your gallery to some of Australia’s oldest and finest print labs – they ship directly to your door. And it’s easy to visualise your images in different frames or on products such as calendars or cards. I also offer OnStone prints (oh my golly they’re so lovely!) and some other fun bits and pieces.

If you have a printer you use, you are absolutely welcome to take your images to them – please ensure a human is involved and avoid those cheap online print places and kiosk printing machines as your colours will almost certainly suffer. (If you’re making a print for your three year old to enjoy, definitely just go to Officeworks!)

    What couples are saying

    • Hiring Bec as our wedding photographer was the smartest decision we made! Not only did she make us feel so comfortable in front of the camera but she was discreet throughout the ceremony, managing to catch moments perfectly. She managed our nine flower girls and boys with much ease and took some of the most amazing photos that we will cherish for years to come. Bec was a delight to deal with before, during and after the wedding and we would highly recommend her to capture your special day.
      Rachel + Will
    • Gosh, out of all the investments we made for the day, you were by far the best! We have been deep in those images all night, living the day again. Being reminded of certain moments and seeing ones we didn’t even know were happening! You are incredibly talented and we cannot express enough gratitude for you stepping in. Because of you, we are able to walk through the day again and again forever.
      Tammy + Sam
    • Oh Bec, your photo skills give me goosebumps. I can’t imagine anyone who would have been more amazing to capture our day and these pictures are just perfect. You even caught the split second panic face my Dad pulled when I slipped a little walking down the aisle – amazing! We truly feel so blessed to have been able to work with someone so professional and organised but so incredibly creative at the same time. And the fact that you were totally cool locking in a wedding date when the couple wasn’t even engaged yet was just the beginning of your awesomeness (and trust). We truly can’t thank you enough.
      Mel + John
    • Jordan and I are not the photographic type, and both get very nervous in front of a camera. Bec was dedicated to ensuring we were always comfortable and relaxed by giving us some simple tips then allowing our own personalities play a huge part in the photos. Her timing was impeccable and kept us all on track. Her quick turn around with editing our photos was quicker then we even anticipated. We can not recommend Bec enough. Her relaxed, lovely, gentle nature was exactly what we needed to make our day perfect. We absolutely love our photos as she perfectly captured our personalities and the love that was shared not only by us but by all our guests on the day.
      Hayley + Jordan
    • Choosing Bec as our photographer was a no-brainer. We had already seen her fabulous work at four (!) of our friend’s weddings. Bec has this amazing talent to not only capture naturally beautiful moments, but also to capture them without you ever knowing she was there! Both myself and my partner tend to look a little awkward in photos when we feel too posed or false, but Bec managed to make us feel totally at ease, and as a result all of our smiles and poses were natural and real. She really did capture the magical atmosphere of the day. Thank you Bec, for creating the most perfect keepsake of such a special moment in our lives, we will treasure our photos always.
      Kara + Jesse
    • All I can honestly say is WOW!!!!!!! I literally burst into tears when I saw the photos. You really have done an amazing job and I feel so lucky to have had you capture our day the way you did. Thanks so much for also talking me through some stressful moments haha it really was greatly appreciated! They really are everything we hoped for. I will definitely be putting your name forward for any future pals that tie the knot!

Sooo it turns out highschool kids absolutely dont Sooo it turns out highschool kids absolutely dont talk about their parents (who’da thunk it) because I was at a school showcase thing tonight and met a parent of a kid in my daughters and I nearly fell over when asking her what she does because she said: Photographer. As a photographer an enormous part of the job is s As a photographer an enormous part of the job is snap decision making. Camera settings, composition, where to stand, what moments to prioritise and even in post, - which shots to keep, what needs to be cropped or made black and white. I’m quite good at making quick decisions (except what to have for dinner 🫠). A reception entrance - is often a shot I’d take from the front but with the view up the stairs being some food trucks and quite a flat sky, I decided this direction was better. It was absolutely the right call. 👏🏻

I photograph families, big and small and I make it I photograph families, big and small and I make it as easy as I can. Because the more comfortable you are the better your photos are going to be - and the more “you” your photos will be. I’m anti cheese and any kind of weird “get you in the zone” because manipulative emotional coaxing makes my skin crawl. (Photo prompts be damned - we don’t go there!!) So if this sounds good to you, you can find out more over at www.becmatheson.com I currently have my books open through to March next year.
Update. So I had my wisdom teeth out (under a gene Update. So I had my wisdom teeth out (under a general) the worst initial bit was a caffeine withdrawal headache/possibly post-wedding things (sometimes we call this a photography hangover) not the teeth! which is a little embarrassing and somewhat self inflicted - although apparently anaesthetics can amplify existing things…. otherwise the first two days were unpleasant but okay (even managed to edit a wedding!) but the night of day 2 and day 3 was not and I caved to the stronger meds and they were barely cutting it. Day 4 now and hopefully the worst is over… once I remember how to chew food again (that bit is slow) and find some energy, if I never see yoghurt again I’ll be happy. I have given myself two weeks all up to recover - of which I have no regrets and then it’ll be into the end of year fun/crazy in full swing.
