Inclusion and Diversity

Family of four one child with a disability in wheelchair

I am an Inclusive Photographer BAsed in Melbourne, Australia

It’s my intention to promote diversity and inclusion in my public images. As a white, middle-class, heterosexual and cis-gendered woman, I’m aware of my privilege and hope that I don’t take it for granted. But of course I’m still learning. If you have any feedback in regard to accessibility and inclusion, I’m happy to hear it.

I’m am an inclusive photographer in Melbourne, my aim for photography sessions is that everyone feels welcome, included and safe.

  • First Nations people are welcome. I recognise the Wurundjeri people as the traditional owners of the lands on which I live and work, and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
  • People of colour, and people of all cultures and faiths, are welcome.
  • People of all genders are welcome.
  • Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are welcome.
  • People with disabilities are welcome, and I commit to working with people with disabilities to accommodate access needs.
  • People of all sizes are welcome. I’m committed to promoting body positivity and diversity.
  • People of any age are welcome. I celebrate life at all stages.
  • Neurodiverse people are welcome. I have lived experience as a parent of neurodivergent children.
  • People with sensory needs are welcome.
  • Families of all kinds are welcome. A large group of multiple generations with several children and grandchildren is a family, and a couple with no children is absolutely one too. A group of friends can be a family, and so can a single person – alone or with their children or pets.*

Statement of Ethics

Dignity

I strive to represent people with care and integrity. By educating myself about the contexts and subjects I photograph, I ensure that my images respect and uphold the dignity of every individual. I commit to respecting privacy requested for any reason and to engage in conversations about where and how my images are shown.

Responsibility

I aim to make a positive impact through my photography. By reflecting on the potential effects on individuals and society, I recognise the power of photography and commit to using it responsibly. This includes talking with my corporate clients about their diversity and inclusion practices and choosing to work with clients whose values align with these practises.

Environment

I carefully consider the environmental implications of my choices, including the equipment and processes I use. I choose to carefully choose locations that I photograph at and take into consideration cultural implications for First Nations people and also the safety of my clients and the natural environment.

Editing Practices and AI usage

While I utilise editing and AI for technical adjustments such as colour, I promise not to alter the natural features of my subjects beyond surface/transient scratches or sores. Practices such as excessive airbrushing, altering skin tones, or changing body shapes are not part of my work. I commit to representing skin and skin tone accurately. I commit to being mindful of how I utilise AI in my work and to not alter anything significant about a person in my work.

Representation

I am committed to representing a diverse range of people in my work. This includes various genders, sexualities, ethnicities, skin tones, body types, physical abilities, and financial backgrounds. My latest work can be found on my Instagram.

Accountability

I acknowledge that a lived experience of a statement such as this one is a continuous learning process. When mistakes occur, I respond with humility and vulnerability, striving to improve and learn from each experience. Each session is an opportunity to critically examine my motivations, methods, and impact. I treat everyone involved with respect and kindness.

Family photography that works for neurodivergent kids

I have lived experience as both a parent of neurodivergent children and as a neurodivergent person myself. I understand how overwhelming a photo session can feel, both for kids and for adults. All families deserve great photography, and I aim to make that possible, even if your family includes people who are autistic, have ADHD, or experience anxiety or sensory sensitivities.

As a family photographer for neurodivergent kids in Melbourne, I offer sessions that are designed to be flexible, gentle, and responsive to your family’s needs. This begins well before I pick up the camera. I take time to understand what works for your family—whether that’s through email, voice messages, or anything else that helps you communicate clearly and comfortably (because quite frankly we all know many of us hate the phone!).

We’ll choose a time and location that suits your crew—whether that’s a quiet park, your own home, or anywhere your child feels settled. Sessions are unhurried, with room to pause, regroup, or change direction as needed. There’s no pressure to perform or behave a certain way—just space to be yourselves. Behind the scenes I work efficiently so that sessions aren’t overwhelmingly long or difficult.

I truly value open communication in the lead-up and am happy to adapt wherever I can.

There are some real perks to photography life. Des There are some real perks to photography life. Despite being a deep creature of habit. I also love the variety this woke brings. I can be in a horse paddock one day and the city the next (like I was this morning). Sessions should reflect who you are and what you want to show about your life.
My 2016 album just arrived. I’m doing each year My 2016 album just arrived. I’m doing each year slowly (this is the fourth album I’ve made). The great benefit of having your images organised is that albums take much less time. This company is @zno_usa I don’t directly offer this brand through my gallery as they’re maybe not quite as polished as the other crew I use (nor are they integrateable with my gallery software) but they feel like a good balance of quality to budget. Although they’re still not crazy cheap (hence why I space making them out!). I also use this company as they offer the page volume I need to cover a full year - which was very important when I made my 2019 album because I took A LOT of photos that year! I also think their album builder is pretty great. Happy to answer any questions.

With my first kid I used to hang out in our kitche With my first kid I used to hang out in our kitchen/dining area at the time in the morning and there were some tawny frogmouths in a gumtree in the backyard (we were up high) and I would have abc classic fm on the background like a old person 😆😆😆 (this is pre google home/alexa days guys) and we’d hang out in the garden. It was deeply unfrantic. The accounts I love most on instagram are the design/housey/romanticise your life types. I like the leaning in to cosy. Sometimes this reflects real life, sometimes it doesn’t and it’s a reminder to try and pace and choose small nice things. The challenge is ironic because the tiredness makes your scroll but the real rest comes from the living it. I have no planned point to this ramble except that thinking about the fact that it’s nice sometimes to document both the gentle present engaged moments because they DO happen as well as the real good ol mess of the reality of raising kids.

I’m definitely not opposed to using AI to do thi I’m definitely not opposed to using AI to do things quicker and smarter but guys… today I saw a photographers caption (don’t ask who, I truly can’t remember… someone overseas!) and the phrasing was freakishly familiar to some of the lines I was getting when I was trying out some streamlining captions (which I binned after it feeling a bit weird but woah I could spot it even though it was pretty causal and conversational, even for ai). I’ve also had some weird little things crop up along in the last year where I think AI has learnt from my website and spat out at people using it for their own photography brands esp around copywriting spaces (Likely because of my good SEO, also ironically the best thing I’ve ever done for my business) and it does feel like my brand has been a bit hijacked (or simply watered down). I typically have a hard and fast rule that this page is not for whinging. But it’s certainly give me pause, and I might have to sit with it for a bit… And then hopefully get over myself. It’s a good practice as a photographer to take yourself off to somewhere really busy (like a city) and remember just how many people there are in the world. Not immune from the old imposter syndrome even at 15 years in!

I think the challenge in 2026 sits in how to remain really firmly yourself as a brand and business when not a lot is sacred any more and the volume of content out here is so huge. These are the things I’m thinking about at the moment.

Anyhoo, have a pic from my archives.
