Healesville is a beautiful place in Victoria for family photography. Wide paddocks, vineyards, bushland and mountain views mean there is always somewhere new to explore, and the light in the valley can be absolutely beautiful. It can be tricky to find properties to use as lots are private vineyards but always worth asking – there are also great spots at the local parks and Maroondah reservoir.
A recent session with the Ellis family at their farm took place in a horse paddock in the late afternoon. It was relaxed, slightly chaotic and completely personal. We dodged a bit of horse poo, climbed a fence, and the curious horses leaned in to see what was happening. I love when families include parts of their everyday life in their sessions, whether that is pets, a favourite walking spot or even the place they are about to call home.
Why choose Healesville for your family photography
- Variety of landscapes: From farmland to forest edges, there is plenty of choice without needing to travel far.
- Personal connection: For many families, the Yarra Valley and Healesville area already has meaning, which makes sessions feel more authentic.
- Room to move: Kids can run, climb and explore, which helps photos feel relaxed and natural.
Making sessions personal
The Ellis’ session took place in a paddock next to where they are building their new home. They involved their horses and kept things really natural and them.
